Dear members, colleagues and friends,
Over the past few months, it has become increasingly apparent that the
National Disability Insurance Agency's processes for the reproduction of
materials in alternate format are far from ideal. We will be actively
lobbying for change on this very important issue over the next few months
and we need your help.
We are very interested in hearing from any and all NDIS participants who are
blind or vision impaired who require information in alternate format such as
large print, Braille, audio or accessible electronic text. We would like to
hear about peoples' experiences in relation to the National Disability
Insurance Agency, as well as those relating to agencies responsible for
undertaking local area coordination (LACs). By gaining a deeper
understanding of what is happening for participants on the ground, we will
be better positioned to develop a strategy to address this problem over the
coming months.
Please consider the following questions when providing feedback:
* What is your preferred format
* If you have experienced difficulty accessing accessible information
from a Local Area Coordination agency, what is the name of the agency?
* Do you always receive new correspondence from the National
Disability Insurance Agency and/or your Local Area Coordination agency in
your preferred format by default, or do you need to request an accessible
copy after already having received it in print?
* Is there a significant delay with you receiving information in your
preferred format? If so, how long is this delay?
* Have you been denied access to information in your preferred format
even after raising this with the National Disability Insurance Agency or
your Local Area Coordinator? If so, please outline the circumstances
surrounding these vents.
* Are there any other outstanding issues that make it difficult for
you to access information relating to your plan, or to put your plan into
action?
