Thank you all teachers and parents of insight for your support and prayers
for us. Everything went well and we had a hassle free journey to and from
NewDelhi for receiving the award from the Hon’ble union minister .
The event at Vigyan Bhavan went smoothly and the officials and visitors
were very supportive and cooperative.
There are a few points that i would like to share with all.
1. Believe in yoursef and your child.
I was very nervous about the air travel as Sherin is very
hypersensitive to sound . Any flaw in managing such a situation would put
her from fright mode to fight mode and aggression will result.
I had too many things to do for the short notice journey and was not in a
position to try social stories or videos..
Just counselled her. Kept reminding her about the need to choose the best
course of action.
She rose beyond my expectations and was smart and calm throughout.
Special thanks to Nila ma'm for her kind words that boosted my confidence.
2. Give your child every opportunity to express himself.
Every family is not living the same kind of life.Each one has their own
unique challenges to face.
As far as possible try to spend quality time with the child. Focus more on
their adaptive skills. Expose them to the world outside. People may make
unnecessary remarks and dishout stupid advices. Ignore.
I know a family -father rank holder engineer from Cet. Mother very rich
family. Two sons. Eldest highly intellegent but developed behaviour issues
during early teens.
Father ashamed of boy's condition. So no intervention or
medication.parents fighting for last 30 yrs.boy now man of48 remains locked
up in room for 30yrs . Family refuses help and threatens suicide when
forced intervention is attempted.
Never hesitate to stand up for our kids. Take pains to help them out.
3.Institutions like Insight kindly explore more and more avenues to nurture
and exhibit talents of asd kids.
At Delhi everyone was so astonished that Madrasi ladki travelled all the
way from Keral to Delhi to get the prize. Only 8 kids chosen from 30
entries. South India and Kerala in particular very poorly represented.
Autism fraternity 's meetings should focus on improving kids abilities.
Share with each other the strategies used for each kid.
