Thanks a lot, Andrew.
As I say, I'm happy with Jaws. This query was on behalf of friends who
haven't used a computer.
I think I wouldn't go for it, but they may wish to.
Thank you.
Best wishes,
Joan.

Hi,
I am a bit hung out on this one, because I am of the opinion that whilst
Guide does the job very well, it is still not the same interface that a
sighted person would use, and could cause problems further down the road if
they need to use the computer in particular ways. Having said this, Guide
certainly appear to be a whole lot more committed to development than past
projects, and some of the features they are using (eg Podcasts/RSS, USB
pen-drive support etc), are a good testament to this.
I would hope that if you were buying a full system from them, Software
Express would explain to you the best way of setting up Internet access.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Subject: [infotech] Software Express
Hello, Folks,
I listened with interest to Brian's interview with the Software Express
seller. I am a Jaws user myself.
A friend phoned me last night as she had heard a similar interview on
Playback magazine from the Sight and Sound Exhibition in Glasgow. She and
her husband are seriously thinking of taking up the offer of the Dell
computer with Guide software and asked my opinion. I really didn't know and
I notice that Brian says there are two schools of thought. I feel they might
want sighted assistance even in setting up Internet etc, and wonder if this
would be difficult for a sighted person to cope with Guide.
Does anyone use Guide or know of anyone who has it? What I really want to
know is how easy it would be for my friends to start off with no prior
knowledge of computing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Joan.
