KBOO Community Radio, Portland's listener-sponsored, volunteer-powered
radio station, is seeking a WEB ASSISTANT.  Start date for the
position is October
1, 2007.   End date for the position is September 30, 2008 with
possible
extensions or renewals.

General Description:  The Web Assistant works in conjunction with the
Web Developer, other staff and volunteers to update daily, weekly and
monthly content, implement new features and train staff and volunteers
on various website features.  High level of administrative/clerical
and training work with light web editing.

Salary & Benefits:  This is a half-time position, and the starting
annual salary is $14,625. The position includes full medical, dental,
life and disability insurance.

Qualifications:  The candidate must maintain the site's content, train
staff and volunteers, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of Internet
tools, trends and strategies for media, community building, and
non-profits on the Web.  Skills that are helpful but not required
include: HTML, Drupal, end-user training, page layout, and Adobe
Audition.

General Description: The Web Assistant works in conjunction with the

Knowledge and skills
·       Computer skills and familiarity with a Windows operating
environment: MS
Word, Excel, and Outlook.
·       Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a
multicultural,
cooperative, progressive organization.
·       Excellent communication skills.
·       High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
·       Excellent organizational skills.
·       Some knowledge of KBOO broadcasting.
·       Ability to work independently.
·       Proficient use of the Web.

Functions
The focus of this position will be around day-to-day administrative
work such as content updates, training, problem solving and group
communications, but the employee is encouraged to take all steps
possible to improve our website and plan for the future.

Approximately 40% programmer/volunteer training, 40% website content
and updating, 20% work with staff and Web Committee.

.       Staff:
?       Train all staff on maintaining their departmental web page,
blog
and/or
audio and graphics uploads as appropriate.
?       Train staff on items that their volunteers use (e.g. Ani
oversees
community calendar).
?       Provide written documentation.
?       Work with staff in departments to identify and recruit
volunteers
for
assistance with the web.
?       Attend all weekly staff meetings and present monthly reports.
?       Monitor site to ensure that staff are updating sections as
appropriate.

.       On-air volunteers:
?       Train programmers & producers how to prepare their audio files
for
uploading and upload them to the proper category on the site.
?       Train on playlists, blogs, and individual web pages.
?       Train community-calendar volunteers.
.       Web Volunteers:
?       Recruit and utilize volunteers in keeping content up-to-date.
?       Recruit volunteers to assist Web Developer or to participate
in web
committee.

.       KBOO Web Committee:
?       Participate in the in web planning & visioning. Attend and
help
coordinate
monthly Web Committee meetings; possibly as chair, secretary or
facilitator.

.       Admin and Content:
?       Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly content is current and
updated.
Train
volunteers and staff how to update.  Work closely with programmers and
staff to add or assist with web content for program specials, outreach
events, governance and membership information.  Train staff or
volunteers on all updates.  This position should always be oriented
towards training and tracking others in content update.
?       Maintain the online program schedule and delegate to
programming
staff
when feasible.
?       Responsible for maintenance of usernames and passwords.
?       Web Assistant will select content for home page.  Provide
dynamic,
eye-catching content that promotes station goals and mission.
?       Solicit information from staff and listener guide to update
program
specials and KBOO events.
?       Work with Web Developer and engineer on podcasting
opportunities.
?       Assist in layout design/ideas for web pages on the web site as
needed.
?       Maintain domain & web hosting and registration information and
track
renewal dates.
?       Document tasks for a Web Coordinator desk manual.

.       Web Developer:
?       Work with Web Developer to document and resolve design,
functionality, and
feature issues, especially with an eye toward simplifying the use of
the site for volunteers and staff.
?       Provide feedback from staff & volunteers to Web Developer.
Track
and
report progress.

.       Automation:
?       Work with Web Developer toward automating the content posting
and
uploading process for end-users with a minimum amount of technical
knowledge needed.  Work with Web Developer to revise templates, blogs,
etc. so that home page, photo postings, outreach events and upcoming
programs can be automated.

.       Research new features and technologies that may be of interest
to
the Web
Committee, staff and board in determining the future web site features
and functionality.

.       Provide monthly report to Station Manager as to who is
trained, who
has
been recruited, what features are implemented and documentation
produced.

Salary
$14,625 annually.
