Advocates Take Unique Approach to Raise National Awareness
of Challenges Still Faced by People with Disabilities
Nationwide Bus Tour Urges Full Realization of the Promise of the ADA
The Road To Freedom Bus Tour is a year long national awareness campaign
inspired by the historic journey of Justin and Yoshiko Dart who traveled
America to mobilize support for passage of the ADA. The ADA was created
to
ensure that people with disabilities could access the services to which
all
Americans are entitled. While the ADA has changed the American landscape,
many of its promises have not been kept. The Supreme Court has chipped
away
at many of the employment protections that Congress meant the ADA to
provide, and too many public services are still inaccessible. The mission
of
Road to Freedom Bus Tour is to alert Americans to the need for Congress
to
keep the promise of the ADA by restoring the protections that have been
eroded over the years.
