Urgent Alert!!! Calling All Access-A-Ride Users We need you to be at a press event!!!The Press Event will be Tomorrow, Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 9:00 am in front of Sellis Manor: 135 W 23rd Street, New York, NY. The event is beinghosted by State Sen. Tom Duane and Assemblyman Micah Kellner. Like you these two legislators have had enough of the MTA run-around over theirmishandling of their budget. The MTA cannot turn to the disabled communityevery time they come-up- short in their management of the business they claim only they can do. Join us tomorrow to insure your voice is heard. Background: Over the past few years the MTA's poor budget management skills leads them to a deficit situation more often then not; however, in most recent years, the MTA has used the disabled community to force the state into bailing them out. Who wants to take from the people who need it the most? The MTA holdsup the community of people with disabilities and tells the state "we will take from them first." If this type of exploitation were to happen in any other forum the instigator would find themselves in court facing discrimination charges. We must stop this exploitation by the MTA. Comeout tomorrow and join in on the MTA Bashing or stay home and find yourself aprisoner of your own home when you cannot afford to go out. The MTA is proposing to double the Access-A-Ride fare from $2.25 to $4.50 and reduce the ride from origin to the nearest public transit venue where the user will ride one of the accessible means of transportation to alocation near their destination. From that location the user will then haveto schedule another ride to their destination. Do we have to pay for the three rides totaling $11.25 one way? Good question: I have asked it of Easter Seals project Action. Additionally can the NTA charge the feds for two rides as a result of the beginning and ending leg? Another good question: I also have this one out for a response. Come see and save Access-A-Ride tomorrow at 9 am at 135 W 23rd street. Remember if we don't fight to save the ride, we shouldn't complain when itgoes the way of budget cuts. Come be a part of the team looking to preserve Access-A-Ride. I will be there looking for you, and I hope to see you theretoo Mike Godino Director of Advocacy, BCID Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled, Inc. 27 Smith Street, 2nd Floor Brooklyn, NY 11201-5111 Voice: 718-998-3000 TTY: 718-998-7406 Fax: 718-998-3743 mgodino@xxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
