Wow! I wish I could attend. Will definitely be going in the near future,
though.
Thanks, Ellen.

Subject: [infoshare] An Invitation to the Met

Below is an invitation to visit the Met in the newly remodeled facility. If
you are interested in attending any part of the day, RSVP to the numbers at the
end of the invitation. Even if you have never participated in a program at the
Met, make this your first visit--I am sure you will want to go back!! (smile)

    Dear All
As you may know, the Metropolitan Museum's New Uris Center for Education
will open on Tuesday, October 23. We are very excited about this - we will once
again have classrooms, art studios and an Art Study Room where the Touch
Collection will be housed and used for handling workshops.

The opening event is an Open House throughout the day on the 23rd, with
various programs taking place in each new space. From 11.00-11.45 there will be
a handling session using the Touch Collection in its state-of-the-art new home,
entitled "The Touch Collection: Exploring Works of Art through Touch". This
program is designed for people who are blind or partially sighted, but anyone
can drop in to observe or take part in any of the various activities happening
that day. So there will be observers and drop-ins.

As someone who has participated in our programs and helped us out with
feedback on our programs for visitors with visual impairments, we wondered if
you might be interested in taking part in this workshop at 11.00. It will give
you a chance to acquaint - or reacquaint - yourself with our Touch Collection,
which includes over 100 works of art from across the Museum's collections, and
also to explore our wonderful new education spaces. Ines Powell and Pamela
Lawton will be leading the workshop.

So, if you are interested in attending, please let us know, either by
replying to this e-mail or calling (212) 879-5500 ext.3561. We very much hope
you can join us on the 23rd, as well as on later dates for the usual workshops
and tours.

    Very best wishes
    Rebecca, Deborah, Cathy and Marie
