hello,
i faced the same problem while installing
the yahoo messenger in redhat 9.0.Later i rectified
the
problem by properly uninstalling the package,
while uninstalling the package the temporary folder
(.ymessenger)created for the package remains in our
system inside the home directory by default.so,remove
the dir and try new installation.
