[Ilugc] resize partition

The below is my disk useage:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 9.7G 8.6G 544M 95% /
/dev/sda1 99M 18M 76M 20% /boot
/dev/sda2 15G 9.8G 4.0G 72% /home
none 1009M 0 1009M 0% /dev/shm
my problem is there is no space left in the /
partition to install oracle, it require minimum 500MB
of space to install. Is it possible to resize my /
partition without any problem ?. I have used only 50%
of my 73GB HDD. another 50% is unused. Iam using the
/dev/sda6 for backuping files. Even i can delete the
partition if it is needed.
Hi,
You can use some of the tools to resize partition. The
KISS way of (or say dumb) is copying /usr to /home and
doing symbolic link. It is not one of the smartest way
of resizing partiton.
In future, LVM is the way to go. Any bad decissions about
creating partitions can be rectified easily with volume
manager.
