There are also some hardware mixers available on some sound cards. For
example the ALI M5451 sound chipset (linux driver: trident.o) on
Compaq Presario laptops support hardware mixing. So I dont run any
software sound daemons like ESD or ARTSD. I was surprised that such a
nice feature existed.
