The comparision between cars and software in pointless, and has been
out on different forums about the fultity of this analogy. No more please.
costs). But software vendors greedily charge for _every_ "copy" of their
software. That is where, IMHO, software should be free from such
licenses which prevent you from sharing.
How do /you/ get to decide what is greedy and what is not ? It is their
software, if you do not lije the terms of distribution, feel free not to use
it. You raise an interesting point on licenses that prevent sharing. What say
you about the GPL?
This worsen the situation for those who bought the software and they end
up living with unfixed bugs and vulnerabilities although they paid for
[non-pre-judicial question] Do you develop any software ? Have you done any
software testing ?
The fundamental flaw with the approach we have both taken is the failure to
see that there are two basic varities in s/w markets : horizontal (office
products fall in to this category), and vertical (exclusive development on
specific platforms). You tend to assume that all s/w models are horizontal, I
spend most of my time in the second market...
Like I said before, users can vote with their waallet and choose not to run
proprietary s/w. We do use Office (97), and Windows 2000 because they do the
job we need them to do (No, we will never run XP, but that is another
discussion). When we have Free/free tools to replace these we will. But
meanwhile, in the real world, things need to get done.
We will find a way, or we will make one - Hannibal
