[Ilugc] cannot install RPM packages

hi..i recently installed knoppix 3.2 on my disk...i
get an error when installing RPM packages..it says
'cannot use db3...'.another message saying "cannot
open var/lib/rpm"..i hav logged in as root..wht could
be the problem?
