Use xset to turn off ur monitor
# xset +dpms --> to enable dpms features
# xset dpms 10 8 5
This command will make ur monitor to go to standby
mode in 10 sec, suspend mode in 8 sec and turns off
in
5 seconds.
#xset -dpms --> to disable power saving features
