I used to have 30 day uptimes and such (only a powercut would stop my
machine!). Shutdown your PC and give it some rest... or you will end
up spoiling your CPU/memory (just like what I did :( )
Daily updates won't download more than 10 MB on average. So within an
hour or so the computer will automatically shut down.
$ (apt-get update && apt-get -d dist-upgrade); echo -e "\a"; sleep 60;
echo -e "\a"; ./done
And when going to sleep, I will do ..
$ cat > ./done
/sbin/poweroff
$
(Morning)
$ apt-get dist-upgrade
$ # Fresh system!
