When I issue the command "services sendmail stop" it shutdowns the sendmail
service and sm-client service. Again when I issue the command "services
sendmail status" it lists that the sendmail service is running and one pid
is displayed. When I reissue the command "services sendmail stop" it
shutdowns the sendmail service and there is no mention of sm-client. Am
relatively new to the workings of sendmail. Can anybody help me.
Thanks and Regards
Vinayak

Are you starting sendmail twice? Sendmail should ideally have one
master pid and that'll fork sendmail processes as needed to handle email
If theres something wrong with your initscripts, then it might lead to
sendmail getting improperly shutdown and then started again
Do a tail -f on your maillog on another console to see what the error
is, when you restart sendmail

Whenever I issue the command "services sendmail status" it lists out
than one pid. Is this normal or is there something wrong. The reason whyi
am asking this is that my sendmail stops accepting outgoing mail and Ihave
to physically restart the email service two or three times beforesendmail
starts accepting outgoing mail.
Any Help will be appreciated
Thanks and Regards
Vinayak
