Did you actually mean scheduled automated "update" ? Or was it really
a scheduled automated "install from the scratch" (as I might've
misinterpreted) ?
For automated updates, you can use up2date on Redhat/Fedora. You can
also schedule update on other Linux distros by setting up a cron job
appropriately. Most "enterprise-friendly" distros do have a tool
similar to up2date.
If this is not what you want, I'm a bit curious to know the
significance of the earlier mechanism :-)
