I had also attended the brief but in depth lecture at ilugc by Brian,
who gave several instances how having the source code and the freedom
to modify it has helped. He gave the instance of how he looked up for
help in mailing lists and recompiled a module to support his new Nikon
Digital camera. It would be nice if the text/notes of the speech is
made available at the ilugc site.
