I am not sure how to do this in Linux.
Change the NIC's to Half Duplex.
I have seen this in Windows based Machines when connecting using the cross over
cable.

That driver has changed a lot over the ages ... and sometimes
comes in
varying chipsets.
I would suggest compiling a fresh driver ...
