Yes, it can be installed on most systems without trouble.

If you have specification of the computer you are going to
purchase,please post it,so that we can tell you right distribution to
suit it.

It is easy to install. If needed ILUGC volunteers will help you.
 
I read that Mandrake or Suse is 
most suitable for Desktops.
If so where I can get a Box of it 
and at what price?

You can get Mandrake/Fedora from ILUGC volunteers. Please tell area
where you reside

Whether we can learn linux directly
from the home system itself?
Yes, you can.
Whether Star office will also be included
because my daughter may have to prepare
so much for her classes. 

Openoffice is similar to staroffice and is available in all
distributions.
