Hi All
I recently came across a distro of linux called "Knoppix". Actually it
is not a distro, but a single bootable linux CD which can boot a machine
into full featured linux (based on debian). The ISOs(696 MB) can be
downloaded from http://www.knoppix.com ;<http://www.knoppix.com/>.
Yes, the Knoppix CD is really great. Another nice feature is, that it
executes certain shell scripts if you want it (it executes a i.e.
"knoppix.sh" in the KNOPPIX-Directory on the CD if it exists).
I use this feature to install Servers without interaction, booting the
remastered CD. sfdisk, mkfs, tar, some additional scripts, and your farm
is ready, even without any network connection.
So I have to send a "thank you"-email to Klaus Knopper, who designed the
CD.
It is also possible to install the CD on harddisk, there are efforts
made to automize this. After that you got a fresh Debian, with all the
packaging power.
I think, there is no system with more ease, with full OpenOffice and
KDE3 and all that fancy stuff. XFS is also supported.
Just my additional bits,
Jochen
