Hi All
I recently came across a distro of linux called "Knoppix". Actually it
is not a distro, but a single bootable linux CD which can boot a machine
into full featured linux (based on debian). The ISOs(696 MB) can be
downloaded from http://www.knoppix.com ;<http://www.knoppix.com/>.
The CD has 1700 MB of compressed software. The bootable CD automatically
configures your devices and boots into X windows. It does not write
anything into the hard drive for the installation(uses ramdrive, so it
is better to have 128MB or more), but mounts the hard drive as read
only(You can remount it if you want to have write access). It is great
for a lot of things including system recovery and to demo linux apps.
I had a bit of a problem with modem, but as I'm on LAN :-) , i dont have
any problem. I had a few problems with older hardware, but who else can
run a linux with X and KDE3 on a P75 machine with 32MB ram?
It is good to have one under your pillow even if you think M$ is your
kind of OS(data recovery from a broken WinNT(NTFS) is painful).
Linux evangelist take note: this might be your best tool to preach about
linux to those who face the blue screen of death.
