Hi all,
Can you please help me to setup KDE desktop in Tamil. I have RedHat
Linux Version 9.0.
1. Download the following :
a. Tamil fonts rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/MandrakeCooker/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/fonts-ttf-tamil-1.1-2mdk.noarch.rpm
b. KDE 3.1 Tamil rpm
http://mirror.leafbug.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1.2/Turbo/noarch/kde-i18n-Tamil-3.1.2-1.noarch.rpm
2. edit a new file ~/.i18n and add
the following two lines to it:
LANG=ta_IN
LC_MESSAGES=ta_IN
3. Become root and Install the rpms
$ su -
<,...>
# cd <your_downloaded_file_directory_path>
# rpm -ih --nodeps \
fonts-ttf-tamil-1.1-2mdk.noarch.rpm \
kde-i18n-Tamil-3.1.2-1.noarch.rpm
4. Go to RedHat Start Menu -> Control Center ->
LookNFeel -> Fonts -> Adjust All Fonts & click on
Fonts check box and select TSCu_Paranar
5. Go to RedHat Start Menu -> Control Center ->
Country & Accessibility -> Country Region & Languages
and select Tamil in the language section
*. Restart X (press Ctrl-Alt-backspace).
You should see Tamil on re-entry to GUI.
Do let me know if this worked.
(I could have missed an instruction step or two)
[There have been more translations
added to Tamil KDE recently.
To use those you might need to
download and install KDE 3.2 rpms.
See

for more details]
hari.
Thank you,
Regards,
Thushi
