I'm sure there are LOTS of software companies that lift code from
GPLed apps and use it in their non-GPL apps. I guess yeah, closed
source software is immune. But they also have the disadvantage that
their software isn't going to evolve as quickly as an open source
counterpart unless they invest enough man power into it (of course,
I'm not taking niche areas into account. I'm talking about some
standard network app). While Yahoo! Messenger for unix continues to
suck, Gaim rocks. (its a different thing that Yahoo! Messenger for
Windows beats gaim any day).
