I used slackware for a long time - but pkgtool doesn't support
dependancies (has that been fixed now?), so you're dead in the
water when you try to install/upgrade/backtrack etc.
I suggest you to try out debian. Even if slackware comes up with some
dependency handling stuff, slack cannot become debian. Once you try
debian, you'll never look back.
For me the only problem with debian is the package naming conventions
.. vim-python, vim-gnome, vim-gtk all are full gvim binaries ... and
.. python2.2-gnome, python2.3-gnome, ... Gentoo excells in this,
without lot of other disadvantages.
