Since this topic has got so much attention. I would
like some opinion on speed/memory overhead aspect of
these scripting languages. Especially from
web based application point of view.

As does Python. The readability of the code depends on the person who
write the code. Lots of our enterprise stuff moving most of our data
around is written in perl. Please do not jump to conclusions based on
popular opinions.
