After following Prabhu's advice, I still could not manage to get X up
and running. After intensive google searching, I finally found an
answer to this question.
The card does not work out the box with even recent versions of X,
specifically the version that is included in Woody (some 4.x stuff).
However, it only needs a little tweaking of the XF86Config file by
hand. Specifically, the following two lines of code need to be
present in the "Device" section:
driver "r128"
ChipID 0x5246
And everything works like a charm :)
