Impractical Laborers, the time has come!
This Friday is 7/7 and we look forward to celebrating our 9th Annual Festival
to Plead for Skills.
Every summer, on the 7th day of the 7th month, ILSSA celebrates its own version
of The Festival to Plead for Skills. The festival is derived from the Chinese
holiday of Qi Xi and the Japanese festival of Tanabata, in which celebrants
wish for the betterment of their own craftsmanship. Instead of wishing, the
ILSSA festival is a holiday of practicing.
We invite all ILSSA Members to join us on July 7, 2017, and observe this
holiday by practicing a skill: using a tool, trying a method, honing a
technique. Feel free to practice with whatever time that you may have, be that
15 minutes or all day long!
To help us cultivate and celebrate our community of practice, we ask that you
document your Festival observance through a photograph and caption, and email
these to markdown@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Thanks to Local 503 Shop JL, your
contributions will be digitally posted to the Markdown.
Check out last year's festival for examples!
Please feel free to email any questions that you may have to
operator@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Yours in practice,
ILSSA Co-Operators,
Local 917 Shop RC & Local 347 Shop FS
P.S. We are preparing our next Quarterly mailing and we want to be sure that
you receive it! If your address has changed, please email an update to
operator@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. If your membership has expired, click here to
renew. If you're not sure if your membership has expired, feel free to get in
touch and we'll let you know!
P.P.S. You may notice that our homepage on our website has changed! Please see
an explanatory excerpt below. We look forward sharing more with all of you
about all of these new developments, and we'll be reaching out soon with
invitations to help us vision the next ten years of ILSSA!
At this cultural moment, we join many friends & allies (perhaps you as well?)
in reconsidering the how, what, & why of our mission and activities. Our new
website will be forthcoming by the end of 2017 as we prepare for exhibitions at
Visual Studies Workshop (Rochester, NY) in October 2017 & our 10 year
retrospective at Ringling College of Art & Design (Sarasota, FL) in January
2018.
