The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is recruiting for a Fish and Wildlife
Scientist III position to serve as a Fisheries Biologist in the west central
(Rutland) region of the state. This is an excellent opportunity to make a
difference in a small state where you will be involved in all facets of
fisheries research, management, and regulatory practice. The job involves
working with the public, designing research projects, doing hands-on fieldwork,
analyzing data, making management decisions, and providing technical assistance
under various permits. Responsibilities include:

  *   Planning, designing, and implementing various field studies for research,
monitoring and management of game and non-game fish species and their habitats.
  *   Regularly evaluate and make recommendations pertaining to various state
and federal regulatory permits to insure the protection of aquatic resources.
  *   Routinely collect, store, analyze, and report various biological data to
make management recommendations.
  *   Conduct surveys and make recommendations to manage stocked fish.
  *   Routinely collect aquatic habitat and water chemistry data to monitor
environmental conditions.
  *   Responsible for various administrative duties including budget, equipment
needs, and hiring of temporary employees.
  *   Regularly interact with a variety of individuals from state, federal,
watershed and angler groups, landowners, developers and their consultants.
  *   Supervise technical, clerical, temporary and contractual employees.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Fish Program Manager.
