Bill-
We have found two different software tools that provide this capability,
for creating schematic & package symbols from a PDF data sheet or
spreadsheet.

Cadence offers PCB Librarian Expert, with a schematic symbol generator
named PDV (Part Developer). This provides very good, out of the box
capability to create schematic symbols for Concept. Package Symbol
automation is limited to the Allegro Symbol wizards that were introduced
within the last few releases; which work great for the 8 or so package
styles supported. More details at:
http://www.cadence.com/products/si_pk_bd/pcb_librarian/release.aspx

Accelerated Designs, Inc has a product named "UltraLibrarian", which has
table driven parameters to define both schematic & package symbols. The
tool works in a vendor neutral format, and then allows you to export the
symbols to your choice of many different CAD tools - Cadence, Mentor,
etc. Very powerful and useful software; and less expensive than the
native Cadence product. http://www.accelerated-designs.com/

I currently own & use both products in our symbol development process.

Thanks,
Joe

My solution does not apply. I can help you with importing a logo, etc.

Good luck. Let us know how it comes out.

Richard,

Thanks for responding.

I want intelligent metal & body graphics.

My intent is to (hopefully) convert PDF data from a data sheet into a
graphical
component template. Then I would impose this template on top of the
corresponding
footprint in Allegro to verify the footprint.

I need a clarification. Do you just want a dumb shape or intelligent
metal?

Hello all,

Does anyone know of a method to convert PDF data (graphical) to a format
that can be imported by Allegro?

Thanks.
