[PCB_FORUM] Re: No DRC, line to NPTH

Good point. I don't like non WYSIWYG either! I think I will stick with the
route-keep outs since it is working well in 15.2. In 14.2 we were constantly
manually voiding the NPTH's when they moved on each layer. Very time consuming.

Yes it is another workaround that works fine but the down side is you have
define thermal pads for an NPTH in you padstack which is quite ironic as an
NPTH could never make a connection to an internal layer and it is not WYSIWYG!
I myself stay away from solutions like that as I can not afford expensive
fabricator tools like Valor and with release 15.2 I see no need for it route
keepouts are automatically avoided with dynamic shapes, works great for me and
my gerber output looks exactly what I have on my allegro screen, so I can just
easily check with a shareware gerber viewer.

That sounds better than the route keepout workaround. I will try it with Valor
output. Thanks,

I know outfits that create NPTH padstacks with a PAD that is oversize
(say normally 15 mils), and add a flash called DOT (basically a flash
symbol that is 5 mils diameter) in the PAD section of the padstack (not
in the antipad or thermal section). When you create Gerber output, if
there's a flash in the pad section, AND no connection to the pin, the
flash will take precedence. This way, you get a line to pad drc, and
only a 5 mil dot in your Gerber that gets drilled away in your output
(or removed by your vendor).

How's that?

We put a 15 mil per side circular route keepout in the symbol over all
non-plated holes. Cadence does not yet have a separate (larger) drc
check for non-plated holes.
Hence, all non plated hole padstacks are embedded in symbols so they can
get the extra route keepout. Works well for a workaround.

I am beginning to see traces to NPTH that are not being flagged as
DRC's
until the
trace violates the setting for line to pad.
As we have designed most of our NPTH padstacks, pad size well under the
drill hole size
we have found only through a visual inspection that we are encroaching
the
drilled area.
Is there a parameter that needs to be set that I have over looked ?

Thanks Jim
