Thanks Kevin,
Over the years...yes, some changes were made to components or pins from
within the designs.
Not all, but no way to know which ones WERE modified.
Except when you refresh all, the refresh log file will flag a warning on
components that were modified.
In summary:
I can not display pin numbers on these boards unless I refresh all.
Too risky for me. Not knowing exactly what was changed by another
designer in the past.
As a backup to this, I will have to show element PIN to verify a pin number.
Thanks again, Mark

Mark,
Well, you still don't say if you (or someone) has modified the symbols in the design. Generally speaking, I never modify symbols within the design. If not then extract them and their padstacks, load them into allegro and create a new symbol. Then refresh the symbols. I don't know if this will work as I have never tried it. But, it's seems worth a try. If any of the symbols have been modified in the design you will find out pretty fast. In those cases, either modify the symbol to match or don't refresh it. It might also be possible to just refresh the padstacks in the same manner. Again, I don't know if it will work and cannot test it as I don't have any pre-14.2 designs to work with. It is possible that you will need to bring the padstacks in to the allegro padeditor and write them out again to get it to work in any case. This is kind of a padstack issue, after all.
Good luck, Kevin

Hello Kevin,
From what I can tell...the *Package Geometry/Pin numbers* was added in 14.2. But if a board was designed prior to that (even though upreved to a newer version). Allegro uses the database library so that any mods to a component pin, etc...(design specific) would not automatically refresh to remove any mods. Now with a 13.5 file upreved to 15.1 through DB Doctor, pin numbers will not display unless I refresh all. But this would remove any mods made in the past. (Dangerous).
How can I use Allegro to uprev the design library without changing any mods, yet allow pin numbers to display?
As I mentioned, the "board" has been upreved by Allegro 15.1.
I know if I "refresh", Allegro will update any mods back to the default library version.
As Jean mentioned, if I extract...the symbols will overwrite any mods that were made.
We have tech's using the free viewer that would like to see pin numbers displayed on components, but will only work on boards that were designed in 14.2 or later without refreshing.
Thanks for the feedback! Mark
