[PCB_FORUM] Re: Allegro-Idf-SolidWorks

Looking for an optional way to import package symbols with
a generic footprint in the event that the design engineer has
not completed his schematic or there is a ref des mismatch
between
mcad and ecad. With ProE there was the mapping file with the
mechpart
and ecad part, if there was no ref des available the footprint
would
still be placed in the correct spot. With SolidWorks if no ref
des
is present then the ecad receives an error and no footprint.
Would like
something similar to the ProE if possible.

        thanks,
        Mike

Hi Mike,

Not sure if SolidWorks has a mapping file like ProEngineer/WildFire. If
it does use it.
Also Reference Designators are used in the Cadence IDF-In interface to
automatically
pull the right jedec from the netlist.

Hope this helps

Andy

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Allegro-Idf-SolidWorks

Just looking for a little feedback from anyone that is using IDF
to transfer mechcad/ecad
        data using Solidworks.

Regarding the use of transferring placement how do most people
handle their placement?
        With or without reference designators?
If placement is done without reference designators how do they
map the Solidworks parts
        with the Allegro jedecs?

I'm aware that the origin and rotation of both the mechanical
model and Allegro footprint need
to be the same, but what happens if the mechanical model and the
Allegro footprint name are
        different?

        thanks,
