Why would I want to do that? It's bad enough that Windows users churn out
.docx files, which aren't readable by some people.
because according to the microsoft tech article, .docx files aren't
being scanned for suspicious content, whereas .doc ones are.
Another oddity, but not particularly relevant to this post. I created
a doc file in EasiWriter, and have been told by a Windows user that
she could open it but wasn't allowed to print it. Is this likely? She
does confess that she's not a computer person!
Unfortunately, it seems that recent versions of Word open legacy Word
files in very old formats (and that includes the format EW uses for
export) in a special read-only mode by default that does not allow
editing. I think that is independent of the "validation" feature
discussed here. Maybe that restricted mode does not allow printing
either. Maybe time to consider some new export format (.docx being the
most likely candidate), but this would be a huge job.

Hi

Maybe talking nonsense but Word 2007 has option to save as 'Open Document Format' with extension odt.

Might that be easier
