Unfortunately, the hardware in these devices is not very modern. I
really enjoyed the user interface and the customizability of the device,
but its specifications are weak when compared to more modern devices. I
can understand why levelstar thought a new generation of hardware was in
order. However, they did rather quickly drop support for the technology
after making significant updates, which is disappointing. One
possibility if more information becomes available is that new code could
be written to augment or replace the original operating system of the
icon and braille plus. This is, however, only a possibility which would
need to contend with the lack of replacement parts or units, and thus
would be rather unlikely.
