Yes, worked before.  When you say opposite end, not sure where you mean?

Did the microphone work prior to this incident?  They are actually on the
opposite end.  They are very easy to break.

Hi.
The other day as I was removing the Icon from its leather case the bottom
front lip opposite the battery compartment fell off.  I snapped it back into
place...only now I can't seem to do any recording with the internal mike.  I
have the Icon set to internal mike, and I have tried every setting from
automatic voice level to the highest level.  All I get in the recordings is
a hiss.
I assume the internal microphone was hiding under that lip.  How can I tell
if it's missing or broken or what?  Thanks.
