another option is if near a c power use a powered usb hub it would power the flashdrive and also let the icon use it. The problem with flash drives though is they can only be written to about 100000 times, that is each sector but reading is unlimited.

U have a western digital passport 160gb hard drive its about the size of a deck of playing cards and a little thinner. Got it at Costco. I tried to hook it up to the icon, but the thing cant draw enough power through the USB port. On the wd website, there is a special cord you can purchase to combat the issue of low power, but it simply can plug into TWO of the computer's USB ports. I don't know if this approach will solve the power drain problem with the icon. If it could be plugged into an ac outlet I'm guessing it would work as the 320gb drive did Best Julie -----Original Message----- From: icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kevin Jones Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2007 10:09 AM To: icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: Using 160 gig external flash drive you can buy a 160gb flash drive, how big physically is that/I just plugged my icon into a 320gb extrenal harddrive powered from the a c not the usb and it worked just fine, so I might suspect how much power the icon usb port provides.David Poehlman wrote:I was unable to use the same drive on my icon.----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott Marshall" <marshall@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, December 17, 2007 7:52 AM Subject: [icon-discuss] Using 160 gig external flash drive I am unable to use my Q memory 160 gig flash drive with the Icon, although a friend of mine has used the same drive model with the Icon without difficulty. My icon sees the drive as two separate USB drives, but Icannotaccess either drive. I have used the external drive both on battery power and with A.C. power with the same result. I have also tried to reformattheflash drive using fat32, but again no luck with the Icon. The flash drive works just fine on my PC. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Thanks. Scott
