Hi, Sharon,

Once you get to the recordings folder, you will find a list of recordings which may be present. If you haven't made any, this will be an empty list.

The first thing to do is press the option key and choose "settings."

You must choose whether to use the internal or an external microphone.

Next you should choose the quality of recording that you wish to make. If you have chosen to uuse the internal mike, it means that you will not and in fact cannot make a stereo recording. Choose the highest voice recording setting. It won't consume much room on the hard drive.

You may also find a setting for the recording level to b e used. You'll have to leave that field blank because it has to be adjusted experimentally until you become familiar with what you are to record and how loud that sound is.

If you are not concerned with retaining musical dynamics and want to be sure that you have a good recording, you should choose "automatic level." This is in the "recording level" box. Go to the first place at the left, which is "automatic level."

You then use OK to save your settings.

You will be out of the menus and you can make a recording by pressing the OK key. To pause the recording, press the "select" key. To stop the recording, press the Cancel" key. It will be named as the date and time when the recording was made. You can change the name to something more description from the Options menu.

Hope this helps.

I have listened to the relevant portions of the manual but am still confused
about how to make a recording lasting more than a few minutes and residing
on the hard drive. What do I do after going to the voice recorder program?
