Hi Joe,
There's no accounting for taste, when it comes to reading books on
accessible devices an individual voice preferences. But for what it's
worth, I've read many many books with the Icon's standard speech and find it
more than acceptable. If you prefer or, are used to just listening to
professional readers, you probably may not like it, but, I think it does
quite a good job and consider it quite adequate. Like all synthesizers, it
takes a little getting used to but I've let other people listen to it, who
don't use any speech, and they were actually impressed.

Which voice synthesizer does the Icon use? And, is it a smooth reading
experience? I only ask because on some notetakers the reading sounds a bit
