All, the April 2011 issue of AFB's Accessworld online features a brief
discussion of Orion in its CSUN 2011 roundup article. See:

http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw120405

In particular, the article section on note takers reports that:

"If the buzz around the [CSUN] exhibit hall is any indicator, the biggest
notetaker story is about a product that isn't available yet. The Orion
SmartBooks are

two new notetakers announced by Colorado-based LevelStar and the American
Printing House for the Blind (APH). Unlike most of the currently available
notetakers,

which use a version of the Windows mobile operating system, the Orion
devices will use the Android mobile operating system. Nonworking design
mockups tantalized

many who visited the LevelStar and APH booths. APH will market a speech-only
version that features a braille keyboard as well as a number pad and
navigation

controls for non-braille input. The LevelStar version of the Orion SmartBook
includes 18 cells of refreshable braille, braille keys, and navigation
controls.

Specific information on availability was not announced."

The piece is quite accurate on the 'buzz' factor .... The APH and LevelStar
booths were simply flooded with excited visitors .... Most visitors had
already learned about Orion and their APH sister products through the
grapevine that you, dear list members, happily facilitated ... Do keep up
the good work!

On the other hand, the quoted paragraph may be generating some very minor
confusion on specifics. Let me clarify

Availability: We project the next generation products to be released
sometimes during summer 2011.

There will be 2 LevelStar Orions, and there will be 2 similar offerings
branded by APH. Here are the Levelstar versions

Orion - Braille Keypad, numeric keypad, voice output only.

Orion 18 - Braille keypad, 18 cell Braille display, voice output, no numeric
keypad.

APH next generation notetakers will be similarly structured. Bottomline ....
Both APH and LevelStar will offer 2 products each: 1 notetaker product with
a Braille display, and one with voice output only.

Stay tuned!
