They are displayed to the user to tell the user what the tap coefficient (or 
register values) so that he can program the buffers at boot time. It will 
take me a couple of hours in the AM to identify in IBIS ATM meeting and 
presentations that the intent of passing the IR of the channel to the Tx was 
so that the Tx could optimize itself at the Rx pad. We had many discussions 
in IBIS-ATM that optimizing the Tx at the Rx pad was not always the best 
thing to do because it would often be better to use the Rx DFE to optimize 
certain parts of the IR, which is why co-optimization is important to 
balance the Tx and Rx optimization.



So yes, it was the original intent of Init models to optimize themselves.

the model maker knows what they mean or can be used for…
