Radek,
That BIRD number is only a placeholder so we can keep track of this draft, but
it will
be eventually replaced by a real, new BIRD number, such as BIRD194 or higher if
this
BIRD draft ever gets submitted to the IBIS Open Forum.
I provided a few examples on slides 9-11 in the PDF file I distributed earlier
today on
this email list (as well as on the Interconnect email list). Note that there
are many
other ways to make reference connections using the BIRD189 syntax, which are not
illustrated on these slides.
Thanks,
Arpad

Hi Arpad,
1. The BIRD NUMBER "158new_rev02" hardly looks like a NEW BIRD.
2. Could you please kindly provide an example of the package model
(according to the BIRD 189 proposed syntax and using, for example, a 2 line
W-element) that would clearly identify the reference node for the buffer at the
pin interface.
Thanks,
Radek

Radek,
Regarding your fist comment, this is NOT a modification of the approved
BIRD158.7. This is a draft
for a NEW BIRD, which would be expected to supersede (replace) the content of
that finished BIRD.
There is nothing inappropriate in changing the authors for a new BIRD,
especially when I mentioned
in the meetings that if anyone wants to be on the list of authors should tell
me and I would be happy
add their name. So far no one made a request like that.
Regarding the second comment, a buffer has nothing to do with the "pin
interface". Also, if a BIRD189
package model is written with an ISS subcircuit and uses more than N+1
reference connections, the
pin interface can have its own reference node, different from A_gnd.
Thanks,
Arpad

Hi Arpad,
First, I have a comment that replacement of all the authors when making a minor
modification to an already ratified BIRD is inappropriate. The BIRD list in the
IBIS web site shows the latest version and lists the requestors of that latest
version. You would need to get permission from all the authors. The
alternatives are to either add you to the list of authors or submit a small
correction BIRD by yourself.
Second, in the latest version the statement that A_gnd is the reference node
for the input/output of the buffer at the pin interface is lost. If we prefer
not to show the channel (EDA and user responsibility), perhaps we need two
figures, the left and the right parts of the figure you removed.

All,
Here is the 2nd draft of this new BIRD, with the changes we made to the first
draft in
today's ATM teleconference. I actually "accepted" the changes made today,
because
they were relatively simple, so the change tracking is showing the differences
with
respect to the official BIRD158.7.
As usual, questions/comments are welcome.
Thanks,
Arpad

Subject: [ibis-macro] New BIRD draft for replacing BIRD158.7
All,
In today's ATM teleconference I took an AR to start a new BIRD that would
replace BIRD158.7. The attached BIRD draft is my first attempt for that BIRD.
I took the approved BIRD158.7 and changed its file name along with some of
the header information. The only other thing I changed was the text related
to the reference nodes of the Touchstone models. I did all this with Track
Changes turned on, so that it would be easy to find my changes. I can add
anyone's name on the top who wants to be listed as a requestor...
Please review and reply with questions/comments.
Wil will most likely need to make changes to the
ANALYSIS PATH/DATA THAT LED TO SPECIFICATION
and
ANY OTHER BACKGROUND INFORMATION
sections to explain all this, but we can do that later.
Thanks,
Arpad
