Maybe I should have stated the "obvious": BIRD 160 was written so that the original text in black is the content of the v5.1 spec, and all changes (in red) are with respect to the text of the v5.1 spec. Of course now in BIRD 160.1 there are some changes with respect to BIRD 160 and it seems that Word doesn't have the ability (or I don't know how to do it) to track subsequent changes with different colors to be able to distinguish between the changes made to the original or an edited version of the original. Either way, everything that is black is from the v5.1 specification, and anything that is color (red) is proposed changes. I hope this clarifies things... The reason the BIRD is 39 pages long is because I copied the entire section on [External Model] and [External Circuit] into the BIRD. I didn't do this because these sections are completely rewritten, as you might say. I did this because some of the changes (such as adding IBIS-ISS to the enumeration of the languages) are sprinkled out over many pages and I didn't feel like pointing to page numbers and paragraph numbers to indicate the locations for where all these editorial changes are needed. With our new Word format and it's wonderful color enhanced ability to track changes I felt that it will be much easier to see what the proposal does to the original text if I took the entire sections for these keywords and made the changes in them with "track changes" turned on. If you just follow the colored text you will see what the proposed changes are. But in short, the BIRD proposes the following: - add IBIS-ISS as a language to these keywords - add the ability to assign values to the parameters of these keywords (this was an AR that was on our ATM agenda for a few years) - add the ability to parameterize the D_to_A and A_to_D converters - add the polarity argument for D_to_A converters connected to the D_drive stimulus when used with true differential models so that the model maker wouldn't have to implement inverters in their models I hope this clarifies your question. Whether we can complete the review and voting of this BIRD in time for the next IBIS version has yet to be seen, but I would like to remind you that the BIRDs (116, 117, 118 and 129) from which BIRD 160 was complied were submitted about two or more years ago and we have discussed them in numerous meetings including IBIS Summits, so the topic should be quite familiar to most of us by now. For that reason I am quite optimistic that we can get it ready for the next IBIS version. Is this document a standalone proposal, or a rewrite of key sections of the IBIS spec? This document is 39 pages long, and the whole spec is only 199 pages. I don't see how we're going to get this vetted and integrated in time for a mid-year update to IBIS. Todd.
