If the Analog Buffer is inside the DLL, then the analog return loss of the
buffer is not correctly handled in the impulse response characterization of the
channel.

Why not? As long as the dll is isolated from the analog front end , the dll
itself can be modeled any way you want

What nasty things are likely to happen if someone puts the analog buffer model
inside the DLL? At the very least, the impulse response will be incorrect.

Are there any circumstances under which this can work correctly?
