A_gnd is a universal reference node, similar to SPICE ideal node "0."
Page 123
One of these port entries must name a reference for the other port (for
example, A_gnd).
The line on Page 123 is consistent with the usage we are including in
BIRDs 158 and 189. I suggest the following changes:

A_gnd is a signal ground or reference node for measuring voltages. A_gnd
can be either a universal reference node, similar to SPICE ideal node "0",
or a node near the node being measured.
Other than BIRDs 158 and 189, A_gnd does not appear in any other BIRDs
that have been approved for IBIS 7.0
