Don't worry, I'll do all of those units for you, and then all you have to do is put the script file into the folder and edit the skill files. I didn't do this before because I thought you wanted to do all the units and I didn't know what to call all of them, but if it's just those and the orc equivalents then I can do it using your suggestions. I'll look through, and if there are any other units that seem like they might need automatic naming too, I'll put those in.

Awesome, those are some good ones. Thanks man!
Yeah, if you figure it out before I do, let me know, lol. I don't know what
it is, but I have never really been able to grasp programming. Ironically,
TB isn't really an issue for me. I think it is because Ian dumbed it down so
much that even a caveman (me) can do it! Geico, eat your heart out!

Hi guys,
I'd say as the creator, it's really up to you what you want to have them
named initially, because the game has the rename function, so anyone who
doesn't like what, or how they are named can just rename the units.
Having said all that, I can try to think up some names for orcs and the
others, if you want, just for the sake of uniqueness among the factions. I
think you did that with the goblins and others, at least in the user guide I
have. grins Some good general terms might be Raiders, skirmishers,
berserkers, marauders, wardancers, perhaps for cavalry, Warg raiders or wolf
raiders, I forget what their cav units ride if that was in the guide. grins
and yes, I meant raiders, not riders. grins shaman or warpriest, perhaps
dark archer.
suddenly my mind is blanking.
Interesting conversation, if I can get the sawdust to settle and the gears
to stop grinding, I think I'll learn something about scripting.

Hi Abi,

Yes, I shuld stick with this. I was just frustrated because I am
really not sure when something goes wrong if it is me, or what. I
thought you would get sick of me screwing it up all the time.

I think the ones I am most concerned about are the human troops and
their alite/advanced upgrades.

So, that is :

Light infantry, elite light infantry

Light cavalry, elite light cavalry

Heavy cavalry,elite heavy cavalry

Heavy infantry, elite heavy infantry

Catapult, advanced catapult

Archers, elite archers

So, your plan is to write out the whole thing new, and give an
example? I am glad you managed to figure out how to do the elite
versions, that is going to be interesting.

I am still wondering if maybe just a numbering script would work as
well, like instead of archers being Camelot bowmen 1, it would just be
archers?
Not that your code doesn't work, but that someone like me might find
it easier, or would there still be a whole lot of coding lines and
stuff? I honestly don't know if it would be harder or easier.

Thanks again, Abi. I appreciate the help.

Good news: I've solved the problem!

Bad news: There are more changes for you to make...

If you prefer, I can send you the new version so you can just copy and
paste the working block instead of having to add in lines by hand. The
script now treats elite units the same as their corresponding ordinary
units so there won't be any confusion over numbers. That also means
that an archer and an elite archer are both called bowman. If you
want, I could try adding something to change the name too, or are
people fine with elite units having the same names?

Were you being serious about the giving up thing? If so, don't worry
about all that, just tell me you don't want anymore scripts. But if
you are going to continue, I'm happy to help. What units are you using
this for exactly?
Is it just the ones you mentioned in your previous message. I could
put some more of those units in to help you out if there aren't too many
of them.

Well, there's some good news and some bad news.

Asuming my suggestion of moving the brace worked and you still want to
continue with this, there are yet more changes that need to be made to
solve the upgrading problem.

I'm working on it and I'll get back to you if you do want to continue.

I'm not certain, but I think the name will stay because the name isn't
really related to the type that I know of. This could actually cause
some problems because the next time you recruit a unit and the script
counts all the units of that type to know what number to name it with,
it won't count the elite unit as it has a different type. I think I
can probably fix that, I just need to know if you want the elites to
have the same names as the ordinary units or something else. I think
if you want something else, then you'll have to edit a few more files,
but hopefully it won't be too difficult, and if you understand how
this last one works (enough to get it working anyway, you don't
actually need to know what each line does), then you should be fine. So
what do you think?

Hi all,

I wanted to ask if anyone had serious preferences for what units get
called. With what Abi did, I guess everyone can name them as they feel
like once it gets implemented, so I guess what I will do is name them
here in a list, give out examples and see if anyone feels strongly one
way or the other.

Light infantry: pikemen

Heavy infantry: legion

Light cavalry: horse

Heavy cavalry: knights

Archers: bowmen

Catapults, trebuchets, ballistas etc: artillery

The orcs will be named like the humans.

Goblins and dark elves and all that I might not mess with, but I guess
I will see how it goes.

I just thought of something. Will the name last with the unit when it
upgrades to an elite unit?

I might have to use the same scripts for those as well maybe?
