There's a mage key in the chest that the dog is guarding. Pick the lock on the 
chest, disable the device, get the key, I don't use the key to unlock the door. 
Though, doing that basically just give you access to information.
Use the key to unlock the door. Also, spider, the cat is evil.

open all the doors, kill the guards and the ruddy dog, pick up the
various small keys but get by using a lockpick most of the time,
picked up the cat who just seems to follow me around everywhere and
made it up the stairs.
However, at that point I get stuck. The lockpick won't open the doors,
neither will the small keys. Hammering it with the sowrd does nothing
and disable device doesn't do much either. Am I missing something or
is this a bug?
