[ian-reeds-games] Re: Friends= flag for teams not working correctly even for player team

What I was doing with StarCraft, was instead of simply casting on units for
an effect. The skill would instead do a point of damage on a point that the
unit has for example you could give certain units a blessed point of one.
The cleric casts the blessed spell which does one damage to the blessed
point knocking it down to zero.

In the blessed point file simply have the at zero flag set to in effect that
gives the unit the effect desired. Set the effect for however long and when
the effect is over restore the blessed points.

Granted, it's not perfect but it might work. I use the same effect for
damaging specific units such as biological, mechanical, etc. so forth.

Hope that helps, or at least gives you some new ideas, grin.

Basically. I want it to be possible for the AI to use buffing skills on
units from allied teams but it always throws fits when you try it with the
friendly flag, apparently. Taking off the friendly flag means the skill
could potentially be used on enemies if the unit was AI-controlled, though,
and I don't want this either.

What's the desired functionality here. To be able to cast skills with
friendly flag on units of teams that the casting unit's team has set to
friendly? I can take a look and see why it's not doing that if so.

For the AI to use them then you probably need enemy, friendly, self or

skills when I tried.

I could set it to work on certain unit types and then take out the
friendly
flag. I'll try that now and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip! I
didn't
know you could do that with skills, honestly. I thought you needed an
enemy
or friendly flag in the file for them to work at all.

Sometimes, if you don't designate his skill as friendly nor enemy, the
unit
will be able to use that skill on any unit from any team. I know it's
not a
great work around but maybe it'll help you if the skill isn't a big
deal. Al

Subject: [ian-reeds-games] Friends= flag for teams not working
correctly
even for player team Hi again,

I've mentioned this before, but I hadn't tested it with my player team
until
this evening.

The friends=flag doesn't seem to be working very well. I set it so my
player
team was friends with several other teams who are enemies of their
enemies,
and then tried to use a buffing skill on one of the allied teams'
units. It
said "You don't want to help your enemies!" ...That's not supposed to
happen.

I knew the AI had issues with this flag before, but I didn't realise it
was
this buggy before now. I'd have thought it would be simple enough to
create
an allies flag like the enemies flag. It's the main problem with teams
that
I've noticed and I'd hope it can be fixed in the next full release. My
maps
focus on a certain group of characters but if there are others doing
their
thing in the background like the Resistance and so on, then it would
feel
more real. :)
