Thanks for the help monkey and carlos..
Both of the skills involve self casting. So if I switch a self effect
flag to, a plain effect , then this should work. Do I understand that right?

yes the ai_buff skill is used to apply effects to the AI unit. For some
reason it has to be effects and not self_effects if that's what you want
to do. Ai_uncurse checks the remove_effects flag and then sees if any of
them match an effect the unit has, to have it removed.
