I find the productivity features in Beryl useful, particularly unfold and scale with text input. I use only the most basic effects, just so that I am not using plain old X. The eyecandy comes in helpful when I am talking to non-Linux users and they say "Cool, how can I do that." It kind of helps "break the window" so I can talk to them about Linux. Maybe some of them will try a live CD, maybe more.
