I like your term, scale creep :-)
I should say that I do still have issues with my songbird scales holding
the tare, forcing re-taring before every bird is weighed. One of my
hummingbird scales, the one that Lanny apparently uses, does not have this
problem but mainly because it shuts off after 60 seconds so I have to turn
it back on for every bird...and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust
the "sleep" time as on some other scales.
So, I'm still looking for my dream scale, though what I have works well
enough.

Thanks for that observation, now we'll have to experiment to see if our
phones have been causing the scale creep we experience on our Ohaus 400
Scout. We have to re tare most every time we weigh a bird. I thought it
might be temperature related. We do have problems with losing the LCD
displays on our digital calipers when they are exposed to bright sunlight.
We try to keep all our LCD panels shaded from the sun. I think it kills
them over time.
BTW, we heard our first AHY M RUHU on July 6, and today we have several
males visiting the feeders. We're currently feeding about 4 gallons of
sugar water daily, and our neighbors are likely feeding a similar amount.
Peak of season is about 3 weeks away.

So, I put the cell phone in the other room, and the problem went away.
